A2 PHOTOGRAPHY

As part of the experimental stage for Unit 3, the A2 students were introduced to a number of different experimental techniques. Some of these were art-based, including painting on the images, collage techniques and sewing into the work. Some were darkroom experiments such as painting on developer, sandwich printing and solarisation. Some were based around distressing negatives, such as burning them, cutting them up and stitching into them.

From this early experimentation, students set their own brief; the final outcome was their choice. They all worked within the Fine Art, Documentary or Fashion genre, and made further explorations into their themes and techniques.

The work here represents some of their final pieces from this or subsequent units and some of their earlier process work. Some students kept things very straightforward with one experimental technique; others took things further by combining techniques and ideas. The work you see here crosses the boundaries of what Photography can be. It uses processes more commonly associated with other art forms and changes the students’ relationship with their photographs.

 

 

AS FINE ART

The AS fine art students have just completed the coursework Unit 1. The project has developed through research of both historical and contemporary artists and has allowed the students to explore and develop their ideas by using a range of processes and materials.

The students have used a range of painting styles, collage, drawing techniques and printmaking processes such as mono-printing, etching and drip painting to create the work within the exhibition. The exhibition shows a selection of work from across the year group to give an indication of the processes used.

This exhibition showcases a range of final pieces which represent a culmination of ideas and techniques. Students work with teachers’ guidance and support to utilise their own strengths, skills and interests.

 

A2 Graphic Communication & AS Textiles Exhibition

 

AS TEXTILES

For Unit 1 the AS Textiles students have produced a portfolio of work relating to the theme of ‘Seasons’.  Each student chose one of the four seasons and explored tracing, drawing and Photoshop responses which they then developed into textiles. 

Following their experiments into surface pattern using dye, batik, print and stitch, students also explored constructed textiles in the form of weave and felt and 3D technique of wrapped wires.  They then chose and developed the most successful ideas and choice of media towards an ambitious final outcome.

The images exhibited are final outcomes in the form of headwear which have created using a variety of textile techniques inspired by the students chosen season and the milliners Stephen Jones and Philip Treacy.

 

A2 GRAPHIC COMMUNICATION  

Having completed the AS course, Graphic Design students continue on to A2 to develop their techniques and understanding of this creative discipline. Students are invited to work through a series of exercises and topics which build skills either in typography or illustration, their chosen “pathway”.

The work exhibited here are just a few examples of the current A2 students output. These final pieces evolve over a number of months, each student possessing a sizable portfolio of development to accompany their Unit 3 coursework.

Towards the end of the course students select from a choice of eight final outcome topics, making personal choices which further develop and express their own intensions, skills and disciplines.  Despite following the same schemes of work, students all arrive at their own unique, creative and personal outcomes.
